Norwalk is a flourishing city with a current population of roughly 109,000 residents. It was incorporated on August 26, 1947 and recently celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2007. The city itself is 9.35 square miles, 95 feet above sea level, and is located 17 miles southeast of Los Angeles. Due to its convenient location near some of the most accessible highways in the greater Los Angeles area, the city continues to grow and develop.

Norwalk is conveniently located between Los Angeles and Orange Counties. This ideal location provides a variety of cultural, education, and entertainment opportunities just minutes away. The climate is temperate, with an average temperature of 63 degrees and approximately 10 inches of precipitation per year. For those who like to hike and swim, there are also many mountains and beaches close by.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has contracts with Norwalk (a general law city) for services in law enforcement and fire relief. Water, street sweeping, and trash disposal are also amenities that are contracted out from the city. The City’s Recreation and Park Services Department are responsible for Norwalk’s parks and community recreation programs. The 12 parks located in the city cover a total of 87.3 acres.
